Remember when Top Gear had a competition to see what the ultimate driving song was? That happened a few years before this gem, and if it was redone this classic would win, hands down.
Seeing Elbow live sparked an amazing amount of love for them, and when I heard this song I just completely fell for them - the whole crowd was bouncing to that famous guitar riff, the power that was coming from those amps was unbelievable and everyone was rocking out to this certain tune.
Elbow are usually seen as a boring band, their songs are usually melancholic, but this anthem changes any previous judgement I had on them - this is a kick you in teeth tune, a song you couldn't help but nod your head too, let alone be able to not stick your foot on the accelerate further down.
Guy Garvey has a beautiful voice, I only thought his voice would be suited to piano tunes, or songs that are just really good to listen to when you're relaxing - but 'Grounds For Divorce' threw all those misconceptions out of the window and Garvey's voice really is the greatest part of this song, using overdubbing and reverb just to give himself the edge, to make sure everyone's attention is on him - and it certainly is you genius man.
