The Minx - No Friends.

Two big events happened to music on the 18th of June this year; Paul McCartney turning 70 and, more importantly, The Minx releasing their debut single.

I love the introduction of 'No Friends', it feels to me as though it's a big hurrah for Summer finally being here, reminding me of music played in the arcades of Blackpool (or of Brighton, for Southerners), where I spent childhood summers. But then there's a huge change thrown into the mixture, the introduced bass, the screeched guitar string, and, of course, the vocals that are delivered in the same way that, our old favourite, Paul Weller would use to spit out anger on the government in his heyday. I took an awful amount of pleasure of paying the price of £2.37 for this amazing single which includes two B sides; Cold Outside and Scoops.

This is going to be my summer anthem, I know it is. It has the joy and feel of 'Alright' (Supergrass), but it has an artistic quality about it that cannot be ignored by any listener, listening to it has quickly restored my faith back into modern music; with bands around like The Minx the world will soon be safe of Rihanna and the likes.
