Battle of the festivals.

Ah yes, my timeline on Twitter and Facebook were filled with excited people as they bought their Leeds tickets last night, I'm going to refer to the Reading/Leeds as fest as 'Leeds festival' because I'm from Yorkshire, and to me it is just Leeds. Yes, I've never particularly seen the attraction to Leeds, I'm not a huge fan of the bands that seem to go there and the lineup this year isn't very different; apart from the fact that the Cure and Kasabian are headlining... apart from them I'm not interested at all. I've spoken to a few people who are going, and a lot of them tell me that they go for the atmosphere, that they aren't too bothered about the music - what's the point in that?!  You're paying £200 for a good laugh? I know a campsite, £25 a night - just over the road from Flamingo land  and it's a right good laugh, that's not what you go to festivals for! Though, one thing I've always like about Leeds is that it appears appeals to a certain audience, with bands like Foo Fighters, You Me At Six, Paramore, Deaf Havana - they all pretty much have the same audience, and I like festivals to be about bands too - call me old fashioned but this is what Leeds seems to be about.

Now a festival I've always wanted to go to is V, for years I've begged my mam to by me tickets but every time something has got in the way of going; friends backing out, other people backing out, my laptop broke and so forth. I wanted to go this year, but unluckily funds were running low in the Hawxwell household when the tickets went on sale. But what a line up! Now this is my kind of line up; Noel Gallagher's high flying birds, the Stone Roses, the Killers, Snow Patrol - they're the headliners of, what sounds like, a wonderful weekend. The Proclaimers are there!  I want to bloody see the Proclaimers, it'd be such a giggle. But this is one of those festivals that have gone all modern on us and have the likes of David Guetta and Tiny Tempah performing, no thank you. But V always seems to attract such a great group of people, I must admit they do attract the 'indie kids' crowd too but apart from them it always seems to have such an amazing atmosphere, I watched it on TV last year and I was so envious of anyone that was lucky enough to be there. And I'll be the same this year when I watch it.

Isle of White always appears to my older side, the side of music which I love most. It always has bands and musicians there that aren't playing at any other festival - wasn't Macca there last year?
Tom Petty and the heartbreakers are making an appearance this year as a headliner, along with our festival regular this year; Noel Gallagher - who has been thieved of any headline slot at any festival this year, as I have seen so far. It all sounds mega to me, personally the line up isn't as great as last year but Isle of White will always be the festival that is what I dream about - I want to see bloody Bruce Springsteen!

Now our smaller festivals that appear this year, as they do every year, include Kendal Calling (the lovely Rachel Deakin informed me about this one) and Evolution, at Newcastle. Now I should be off to Evo this year, £35 and I'm going there just for the giggles, you can't go wrong for thirty five quid really. Though I will be looking forward to seeing Miles Kane for a second time, all the rest are come and go for me - though it will be handy seeing Deadmau5 for my music tech work. Whenever my friends have been to Evo they seem to have come back such happier people, and looking through photos is does look like an amazing time.
Kendal Calling, what a canny little festival it looks like. It also looks like it'd attract a great crowd of people, all there just to soak up the sun and listen to the music. James will be making an appearance there, I wonder whether the older folk of Kendal will appreciate the lyrics of 'Laid', maybe they'll sing along - who knows? Will they even appreciate Dizzee Rascal as they nibble on their infamous mint cake?
I'm sure they'll have a great time.

T in the Park wins for the line up this year, and that's why I'll be heading up to Scotland on the 5th of July, accompanied by friends and plenty of booze! I'll have just turned 18, so let the party begin!
The line up is pretty similar to V, the headliners are the same but without the Killers, but does that matter? When we have Kasabian to replace V's Killers. I'll be seeing Miles Kane for the third time! And he's pretty much worth it, Elbow, Frank Turner, Ben Howard, Florence and the Machine, Happy Mondays, James Morrison, Pete Doherty and many more amazing acts will be there to entertain me too.
They have a Ferris wheel! A bloody Ferris wheel! The Scottish know how to put on a good party, and I'll be surrounding myself with the good folk of Scotland to show me how real drinking is done.

See you all at T!
