Musician of the week. 20/10/2011.

Keith Moon.
Keith Moon is my all time favourite drummer and musician (alongside Noel Gallagher). He is my favourite drummer mainly due to his actual drumming which, sometimes, can get overlooked when talking about Moonie, due to his natural craziness that surrounded him and all of the stories that have come out of this legend. He seemed to have picked up those drum sticks and thought "right, let's see how I can fuck up how everyone else drums" and he did. What makes him this great drummer is that he made the drums a lead instrument, if you listen to Who songs the drums are so prominant when before they came along the drummer just did what they needed to do and created a beat for the rest of the band to steal the show away. But not Keith; he sort of makes guitar riffs on his drums, with the help of his thousands of toms, snares, and crash cymbals, his two bass drums and, of course, his gong he would follow whatever Pete was playing or what Roger was singing and play that out on the drums with his cascades of drum rolls to fill in the blanks. He's the drummer's drummer, he's my hero and there are many lists of reasons why he is - but as this is a music blog I thought I'd stick to the music; one day I may treat you to some Keith Moon stories.
