Miles Kane (13/10/2011)

I decided on wearing flat shoes to this gig, given my last attempt at gaining some height, when in a crowd, that ended with me walking through Middlesbrough barefoot. A cold night in Middlesbrough waiting in line so we could get a good spot to see Miles Kane, we were let in early, an hour and a half early so we waited around inside for the one hour and a half but I was fine staying in the warm in Middlesbrough's best live music venue. We waited, for a while, in a crowd full of Arctic Monkey t shirt wearing hipsters, indie kids and the odd over 30 before deciding on going upon the balcony for a better view.

The Folk are the first act on. Drummer, Elliot Barlow, keeps a very steady beat that echos a marching band, but is so much more energetic. Scott Anderson, the lead vocailst, has a small resemblance to Mick Jagger and toys with my biggest pet peeve - a lead singer with a tambourine. It could have put me off of them but their La's meets Stone Roses guitar riffs make it hard not to enjoy them as they are, it's enough to just about drown out the odd smack of the tambourine.

Miles Kane enters the stage after the longest stage check I've ever stood/sat through. Everyone cheers as he struts on in his black leapord print trousers and Beatle style boots, he cockily asks them for more and they give it to him, we all do. Miles Kane has something of the Mick Jagger's himself but with the cockiness of Liam Gallagher, a brilliant combination and the audience react to his charisma with more cheers and jerks of their arms. He leaps about the stage with his Gibson, dancing almost, and loving every second of attention he's getting from us. Kane then does a cover of one of my favourite Beatle songs, very risky business but, he pulls it off very well - giving it a new lease of life. His energy is very hard to ignore - especially during Come Closer. Everyone sings along with him, clapping their sweaty palms together as that rock hard intro appears. We all sing along, one of those wonderful moments at a gig where everyone in the room can't help but burst out and sing along with the musicians, Miles can tell we're all up for it so when he ends he comes back for more which brings an even brighter smile to the faces of the hipster kids, whom are probably only aware of that song from the whole set.

Miles Kane is going to save rock and roll.
