One of the most fun songs ever, a brilliantly well done cover of the Jan and Dean number. It's a well known fact that Keith Moon loves surf music, and it's a well known fact that the Who weren't a surf band but to keep Moon the Loon happy they let him take the lead vocals on this surfing classic. The Who have done well to get a record to keep the surf music rules, they could have gone all artsy and made a rock version of it, but no. They stuck to the rules. And it paid off well.
Moonie's vocals actually sound great on it, how that happened I'm still trying to work out considering there was no such thing as auto tuning in those days, maybe all Keith needed was a little help from double tracking to make his voice sound tuneful - no, it can't be. Maybe having Keith Moon was actually always meant to be a Beach Boy. But I like it, it's one of the only songs that can get me up and dancing as soon as I wake up, I like to shout the words as I run around the house like a lunatic before my mam shouts at me for disrupting her asleep. But that doesn't stop me, nothing will stop me from singing the opening lines to 'Bucket T'.
I love everything the Who did...except this.
