Album of the week. 06/10/2011.

Live at Leeds - The Who
I've been listening to this album quite a lot recently, it is in, in my opionion, the best live album there has ever been. I feel that because the Who take all of their energy from stage and also use it in the recording studio, when making an album, the quality of it is just astounding - though the difference is on this live album you get a sense of being there. Everything is so much clearer to the ear and you can almost feel the energy from the audience too even though they are almost invisible to the ear as they're only heard with the odd cheer and laughter when Townshend and Moon have a little banter between them about the meaning of 'A Quick One'
"What happens is... they fornicate"
"What's that?"
"Pardon?"
"What's that Pete? I thought it was a little station outside Chipping Ongar."

With the mention of 'A Quick One' it has to be said that this is a brilliant performance of the classic,  probably their best alongside the performance on The Rolling Stones' Circus. Entwistle with his brilliant falsetto secretly takes the show away whilst Moonie's high power drumming is so ear catching that it's hard to concentrate on anything that's going on around it.

The only problem I have with the album is Daltrey's vocals on 'My Generation', not that I feel they're bad in anyway it's just how strong it is. Let me explain; the song was written for the youth and when orginally sung by Daltrey he sounded very young, most probably because he was, but in this version he sounds very rough and strong which makes him appear and sound older when he should have been singing a softer, higher pitched as he does when they go into 'Listening to you'.
